If a pilot must land in the area of the residences, please shut down the motor if safe to do so. It is currently leased to cattlemen, keep all gates closed after entering or leaving. The Launch and its access roads are owned by a number of private and public entities. Special Note: We have only the forbearance of the property owners and no official authority to fly this site.

Not recommended for pilot training due the significant hazards present to the unskilled and unfamiliar. All flights must be in accordance with FAR Part 103.All pilots should wear a helmet and a reserve parachute. Please use only designated areas for launching and landing.Skills level required by site conditions: Intermediate level pilot (H-3, P-3), Novice level pilot recommended with 'instructor' supervision.Highly recommended that new pilots should be accompanied and checked out on hazards and appropriate use of this site by knowledgeable local pilots before flying this site.Bail out LZ is located in mid way up the hill on the NW side and a clear area just above the highest house SW side near the south access road. With appropriate conditions, top landings are achievable, but watch out for lee side rotor, people, and vehicles. Another landing location often used by Hang Gliders is the beach area just off a Public Parking lot NW of the Launch (north side of large open space between beach front houses). The recommended Hang Glider LZ is located in front of a small parking area along Highway 1 across from Torro Creek Road (approximately 1 mile south of the of the last beach house). Use limited parking available to pick up pilots only (vehicles not going up the hill usually are park across highway 1 near fire station. Recommended landing sites for Paragliders is the beach, preferable just south of last southern beach front house (near public access). (Private ranch boundary line is marked by first fence just south of launch). Do not land in open area south of hill as you may well be prosecuted for trespassing. With appropriate conditions you can launch in just about any direction except east. Launch is at the top of hill with wind sock/streamers. We ask anyone new to the site that they be accompanied to top by a knowledgeable local pilot or instructor. I will update this post with more directions when I have more time. This site is located in the hills just SE of the City of Cayucos and North of the Torro Creek Road. See google earth file for parking and directions. Look for low temperature differential between inland and the coast and good forecasts on wunderground for this site. Inversion layer commonly sits off the coast blocking 20-30 mph winds that are white capping just off shore 200-300 yards. Works well in WSW winds, or NNE-ENE winds (see offshore site in pics). Take HWY 101 up the grade to TV Tower Road Exit (not labeled, see map for reference), follow the road up to the ridge that faces WSW for an expansive view of SLO and some great flying! Print out this little map and you'll be fine getting up the trail. You shouldn't need 4WD unless it has just rained, and then I wouldn't do it unless you have some mud capable tires on your vehicle (the trail turns in to slick clay for about 24 hrs after a rain fall). If you have an SUV with moderate ground clearance you can easily make it up this trail. You'll see a sign that says end county maintained road. Follow that around to a left turn onto Chaney Ave and continue on towards the trail. Go up the hill to Davies Ave and turn right. Make an immediate left (Ocean Blvd), then an immediate right (Haines Ave). I would check this and the one in Morro Bay / Los Osos to see what conditions are like at the coast.)Įxit HWY 1 at Chaney Ave / Ocean Blvd going inland. Weather Underground (This is the closest station I've found, which is in Cambria. Looking forward to getting more of a regular slope crew together here. Hopefully I can meet up with at least one of you guys there! I am planning on making a flying trip to either Cayucos or Cuesta ridge on Saturday afternoon. Here is a link to the previous thread which includes some google earth files with markers at many of the slopes here in San Luis Obispo. I've noticed that a few slopers from the area (myself included) have been coordinating flying at different sites throughout SLO and thought I would dedicate a thread to the entire area, rather than solely Cuesta Ridge (as in the previous thread). It is a day-use site that is also a designated Hang Glider landing site. I've decided to create a thread for the general discussion of flying sites in San Luis Obispo and the slope crowd here. Landels-Hill Big Creek Reserve is the land area adjacent to the creek and the.
